お彼岸　（井手一男）

お彼岸の時期は1週間。
9月20日（土曜日）にお彼岸入り、お中日が秋分の日である9月23日（火曜日）、
そして彼岸が明けるのが9月26日（金曜日）である。

驚かれるかもしれませんが、お彼岸という行事はインドではありません。
じゃあ中国だろう、と思われるでしょう…残念ですが、中国にも存在しないのです。

　

お彼岸は、江戸時代に定着したと云われていますが、日本発祥の行事です。
年に2回、昼と夜の時間の長さが同じになる春と秋に行われます。
農耕民族にとって重要な季節の変わり目に、此岸と彼岸という仏教の概念を重ね、
暮らしの分岐点と仏道に生きる者としての原点を見直したのでしょう。

儒教の影響を色濃く受けた日本の仏教思想の根幹とも云える先祖崇拝。
それを彼岸に、巧みに取り入れた日本人の知恵には感心します。
そして気候的には、暑過ぎず・寒過ぎず、気持ちが和らぐこの時期は
仏道修行もはかどるであろうということでしょう。

　

さて、仏教的には、彼岸は自らの心を彼岸へ向けるという行事です。
今いるこちら側（此岸）から、仏教の理想である彼岸へ
渡るための修行をするという意味合いが強く、
先祖代々に対して感謝し、今いる自らの有様を振り返り問い直すことになります。

お爺ちゃん・お婆ちゃんが居なければ、お父さん・お母さんも居るわけはなく、
そうすると僕も私もこの世に居ない…ということですから、
命のバトンに感謝する日ですね。

明後日からですぞ。
